This is a sampling of Cuyahoga Falls police reports made available May 27 and is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all events occurring in the city. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty.
5-17 A discount store in the 500 block of Howe Avenue reported the theft of three “Squishy Dumplings,” a total value of $13.50. An identified suspect attempted to leave the store with the unpaid merchandise her daughter had opened and was holding. The property was returned to the store. Prosecution was declined. The suspect was trespassed.
5-19 A property owner in the 1900 block of Tacoma Street reports an unknown individual gained entry into a vacant home he was trying to sell and unscrewed a live gas union causing the gas to leak into the home. The owner called the gas utility company Enbridge to have the leak fixed and the gas shut off. The owner reports the damages could amount to approximately $200. There are no suspects or leads. The owner does wish to prosecute.
5-19 A neighbor called to report that a dog had been outside with no food or water for 24 hours in the 1700 block of Union Street. Police found a small gray pitbull in a crate in the backyard. There was food, some shade, and an overturned water bowl. The humane society had left a contact card on the door an hour prior to police arrival, citing insufficient shelter and water for the dog. Police were able to contact the owner who stated the dog had been given water and food at 1830 hours on May 18 and had not been checked on since. The community service officer transported the dog to Metro Veterinary Animal Hospital for concerns of dehydration, swelling in the rear, visible spine, and skin health on paws and head. The owner was arrested for animal neglect and given a summons.
5-19 A resident in the 2700 block of Northland Avenue reports that upon returning home from a run, he discovered a green bag of dog feces was placed on his front porch. Upon reviewing their camera footage, it was discovered to be a neighbor who rang the doorbell, placed the bag on their front steps and proceeded to use obscene gestures prior to departing the property. The female was identified and given a criminal trespass warning.
5-20 A 12th Street resident reported to police that his son left his Rawlings catcher’s mitt at Oak Park. When the man’s son went back to the park the mitt was gone. The value of the mitt is $350. No suspects or leads at this time.
5-20 Police responded to a verbal altercation in the 1200 block of Howe Avenue. The couple, a known male and female, had a verbal argument inside of a convenience store. The two stated they were arguing over a cell phone not working correctly. Both parties were advised of Disorderly Conduct, and the male half was trespassed from the store, per the request of management.
5-21 A 23rd Street resident reports that while walking his dog, a random dog ran unprovoked toward his dog and bit it. On scene, officers spoke to the victim who stated it was a neighbor’s dog who had bit his dog. The neighbor was identified and issued a citation for dog at large, a misdemeanor of the minor degree and given a court date. A dog designation form was completed. The victim reported his dog was ok and sustained no injuries.
5-21 During a traffic stop in the 2900 block of Oakwood Drive on a white Subaru Impreza, the driver was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol with an open container inside a motor vehicle. The driver was charged with OVI and Open Container. He was released to a sober third party.
