City Council Minutes Report: April 15, 2024

City Council News & Politics

Cuyahoga Falls City Council holds regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Council committee meetings are held on the first and third Mondays in order to allow councilmembers to publicly discuss pending legislation that will be voted on at regular meetings. The public is free to comment on pending legislation during the allowed time set aside as part of committee meetings.

New Ordinances & Resolutions

Planning and Zoning:

A-42: An ordinance approving the establishment of a New Title 5, “Merriman Valley Schumacher Code” and associated text and zoning map amendments for multiple parcels in the Merriman Valley Schumacher area, as more fully described and depicted. The planning and zoning committee set Monday June 3 at 6:30 pm for the public hearing to hear public input on this legislation.

Finance & Appropriations:

A-43: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to execute a modification of contract no. 8879 with Perrin Asphalt Company for the replacement of curb on Silver Lake Avenue. This legislation was presented by city engineer Tony Demasi and it will allow for over 1,000 feet of curb to be replaced. The plan is to start the curb replacement May 28 and have it completed prior to the paving that is slated to happen later this summer, with the goal to have both completed before school returns this fall.  The committee voted to bring this out for a vote before all of council next Monday.

A-44: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to enter into a contract or contracts, according to law, for the replacement of the 6” and 8” water mains on Oakwood Drive, from Monroe Avenue to Graham Road, with an 8” water main. Demasi explained this will replace the cast iron sewer line along Oakwood Drive that was installed between 1920 and 1940 and is experiencing many breaks. The project was bid out and came in at $1.2 million which is well under the $1.5 million estimated. The city will also receive a 50% match from The Ohio Public Works Commission. Work will start this year, wrapping up in the spring of 2025. The committee voted to bring this out for a vote before all of council next Monday.

Public and Industrial Improvements:

A-45: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to enter into a cooperative agreement with the City of Akron, Ohio to share the cost of engineering and construction of sidewalk on West Portage Trail, from North Portage Path to Waterford Court. Demasi stated that this is the cumulation of over a year’s worth of discussions with the city of Akron and taking public comments received from the Merriman Valley Schumacher area master plan meetings and putting it into action. The result will be over 2,000 feet of sidewalk to make walking into the valley safer along West Portage Trail. The total cost for the project is $297k with Cuyahoga Falls paying $26k for their share of the project. The committee voted to bring this out for a vote before all of council next Monday.

A regular City Council meeting was also held Monday, April 15 in place of the one that was canceled last Monday.

Finance & Appropriations:

A-40: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to purchase certain interests in real property from David B. Sr. and Mary Schrembeck, necessary for the improvement of State Road, Seasons Road, and Wyoga Lake Road. Passed 11-0.

Public & Industrial Improvements:

A-41: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to enter into a contract or contracts, according to law, for the rehabilitation and remodeling of City Hall bathrooms. Passed 11-0.
