City Council Minutes Report: April 22, 2024

City Council News & Politics

Cuyahoga Falls City Council holds regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Council committee meetings are held on the first and third Mondays in order to allow councilmembers to publicly discuss pending legislation that will be voted on at regular meetings. The public is free to comment on pending legislation during the allowed time set aside as part of committee meetings.

No new legislation was presented therefore nothing new was assigned to committees for discussion.

Council began their meeting by adjourning into executive session. Council rules allow legislation to be discussed in private under certain conditions; in the case of this legislation it was to consult with the Law dept. per council rules 111.03, section e.

Miscellaneous Businesses:

Kathryn Semo, representee for the Ohio Auditor of State presented to the finance department and City Council “The Auditors State Award with Distinction.” She stated that out of the 6,000 audits done by the state each year only 4% receive this distinction. Finance Director Bryan Hoffman was humbled by the presentation and thanked his staff and council.

Finance Director Hoffman presented his report 21 to council and went over where the city’s finances for the first quarter and what his office is keeping their eye on. Admission tax will be returning again in late May when Blossom Music Center begins their season. Income tax returns are strong, showing a 9% increase over this time last year, and some small increases in the city’s self-insurance health care fund.

Community Development Director Diana Colavecchio presented council with the Economic Development Quarterly report. This quarter’s report highlights $25.5 million of completed privately funded development projects in the city. The big number is in part due to the completion of the Princeton Place development on Wyoga Lake Road, according to Colavecchio. Other items of note were El Papas moving to State Road from Howe Road in Akron.

Another industrial employer on Akron-Peninsula Road is Klutch and they will be bringing 60 jobs with them. Colavecchio also made note that Michael Horning Construction & Design will be a new neighbor in the industrial park on Cochran Road, near the city’s new Electric Service building. Another project of interest that Colavecchio mentioned was the Glens on South Front Street and she was happy to report that new homes should be sprouting in 30-45 days.

The Economic Development report is shared every quarter with City Council and it follows the monetary investment and jobs created by all entities from the time they take out a permit to their completion.
