Front Street’s parking meters will be dressed up in their holiday best once again this year as “Parking Meters on Parade” returns to downtown Cuyahoga Falls this holiday season. To help promote and incentivize shopping at local businesses, all parking meters downtown will be decorated by Cuyahoga Falls businesses and groups. With the meters covered, the city will offer free street parking in lieu of using the meters for up to 2 hours to allow customers to shop without worrying about the time.

“Parking Meters on Parade was a wonderful addition to Downtown Cuyahoga Falls last holiday season with free parking and festive decorations,” Mayor Don Walters said in a press release. “I can’t wait to see the creative displays by our Cuyahoga Falls families, organizations, and businesses this year.”

After all are decorated, the public will have to opportunity to vote for their favorite designs in multiple categories, with the winning meter being announced at the end of December.

During the inaugural Parking Meters on Parade in 2020, Harps & Thistles Yarn & Gift Emporium received awards for Best Decoration by a Business Citywide, Best Decoration by a Downtown Business, and Best Decoration Overall for their creation of Dr. Seuss’s Grinch character made entirely of yarn.

Although the deadline for downtown businesses to apply has passed, community groups have until November 12 to register for a meter. Creators are asked to use waterproof materials and discouraged from using tape, wire, or any adhesives on the physical meter or post. Decorators are also asked not to paint directly on the meter or sidewalk or create anything that would impede pedestrian or street traffic. Decorations will be installed on assigned parking meters during the week of November 22 and photographed for voting the following week.
