Fallscast gets down with the new Scents in Town

Arts Culture

On Friday, January 20, after a long week, members of the Falls Free Press and the Fallscast met for a night of frolic and fancy at the grand opening of Sense by the Falls. Located at 1749 Front St. Suite C, Sense by the Falls is a chic boutique that features a wonderful array of aromatics and vessels, locally-made art, and plants from LeLe’s Leaf and Vine. Given the shop’s vicinity downtown, the evening began at HiHo Brewing Co. for some piping hot oven-baked pizza and freshly drawn drafts, the group waiting a bit impatiently for dinner—a wait that resulted in a rousing game of Jenga. Both laughter and groans were heard as the smooth wooden blocks came tumbling down more than once, continuing outside on the walk to the feature location.

The grand opening of Sense by the Falls included both an open mic night and a candle-making experience. In a hushed, inviting way, the atmosphere was stimulating, with some sudden outburst of strong voices, speaking their poetic truths. There was a fascinating array of scents to smell, delicate yet potent, ranging from peach to salted caramel, campfire to baked bread, and of course, we can’t forget jasmine or myrrh. There are over 100 scents from which to select, and we smelled just about all of them. The shop artisans provide welcome guidance when you enter, demonstrating how to craft your experience, how many scents is too many when making a candle, and which type of vessel might suit your needs, or budget, best.

Two of us made a candle, and it was a fun experience. Sense by the Falls has all the makings for a great date night, a no-pressure night out with the ladies, or even a group of colleagues. If you don’t want to make a candle, shop for some lovely house plants or restock your favorite bag of soil, or browse the art offerings. You can even sip on custom-crafted mocktails, and soon, cocktails, as well.
