This is a sampling of Cuyahoga Falls police reports made available March 19 and is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all events occurring in the city. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty.
3-7 Police were called to a department store in the 400 block of Howe Avenue for a shoplifter in custody. A female suspect attempted to cross the point of sale without purchasing merchandise, concealing certain items in her hoodie pocket and at self-checkout. Loss prevention reports that the suspect would bag items that had not been scanned. The total value of merchandise reported stolen was $92.95. The items have been recovered by the store. The woman was charged with theft, and the complaint was signed by store management. The suspect was booked at CFPD and released on a signature bond.
3-8 Police were called to a department store in the 400 block of Howe Avenue for a shoplifter in custody. Loss prevention reports a known juvenile passed all points of sale with unpaid merchandise. The stolen merchandise amounted to $374.17. The stolen merchandise was recovered. The juvenile was released to a guardian on scene. The theft charge was signed by the store.
3-11 While using a gym in the 1900 block of Portage Trail a customer reports that between 2030 and 2115 hours an unknown suspect stole his cell phone from the basketball courts of the facility The victim would like to prosecute in the matter. There are no leads at this time. Video footage was requested from the gym. The victim was given resources to contact Victims Assistance. Total value of loss is $835.
3-11 During a traffic stop on Route 8 near the Howe Avenue exit, police observed an open container of wine in the back seat, of which the passenger took ownership. A search of the vehicle revealed a bong with marijuana residue, of which the driver also later took ownership. Neither the driver nor the passenger showed signs of impairment or recent use of alcohol or marijuana. The driver was cited for speeding and warned for underage possession of marijuana paraphernalia, while the passenger was warned for the open container. Both parties were released.
3-12 A gym in the 1900 block of Portage Trail had a customer report to police that someone stole their son’s iPhone 16 Pro from his gym bag while playing basketball. The loss was stated to be $1,200. There are leads and prosecution is desired.
3-12 During a traffic stop on State Road and Broad Boulevard police spoke with the 19-year-old driver and 18-year-old passenger and during the conversation police detected the odor of burnt marijuana. The passenger admitted to smoking marijuana shortly before the stop. A search revealed 47.1 grams of marijuana in two plastic bags and a digital scale with marijuana residue. The driver confessed to owning the scale, while the passenger admitted to possessing the marijuana. The passenger was cited for possession of marijuana paraphernalia while under 21 years old, and the driver was cited for possession of marijuana while under 21 years old. Both individuals were released, and the illegal items were seized.
3-14 The manager of a bank in the 200 block of Howe Avenue reported to police that a known former employee stole money from her drawer and in other ways through her employment with the bank. At this time the bank has suffered a loss of approximately $3,000 cash, though this amount is expected to increase as their corporate security continues their investigation. The manager reports that the bank would like to prosecute.
3-14 During a traffic stop for several equipment violations at the corner of Maitland and Valley Road it was discovered the female had a suspended license. During the inventory of the vehicle, the officer located a plastic bag containing 13.8 grams of a brown/green powder. The female stated the powder was “Kratom.” Due to the female’s prior recent drug history, the substance was sent to BCI for testing.
3-14 A discount store in the 300 block of Howe Avenue reported to police two unknown suspects stole around $50 worth of merchandise. The subjects carried the merchandise in a bag and in hands while walking passed all points of sale without paying. There are no leads and the manager did not want to press charges.
3-15 Police responded to a call at Third Street and Sackett Avenue to a report of an intoxicated male unconscious on the corner. When police arrived, they located the male who was highly intoxicated, and he was identified. The suspect was cited for DOC INTOX and released to his sober friend.
3-16 During a traffic stop on State Route 8 near the Graham Road exit officers observed multiple indicators of impairment from the driver and she was placed through a field sobriety test and was subsequently arrested following the test. The driver refused to provide officers with a breath sample to determine her BAC. The driver also has a previous conviction of OVI in the previous 20 years. Officers also located two open containers of White Claw. The driver was released on a PR bond and transported to Akron City Hospital.
3-16 A passerby contacted police to report a broken window at a car dealer in the 1500 block of State Road. Officers located the broken window along with an open car door inside the dealership. Officers cleared the business and found no one inside. It appears there were three unknown suspects who came to the business and broke in. The manager responded to the scene to speak with officers, and he does wish to prosecute if a suspect is located. The estimated damage to the broken window is $2,800. No vehicles were stolen from the property.
3-16 Police responded to the 2000 block of State Road for a report of a burglary and breaking and entering at a smoke/vape boutique. The business owner reported that two unknown males made entry into the business through the back door and took approximately 30 nicotine vapes valued at $600. The owner does wish to prosecute. There is a possible lead. CFPD was previously at the business for an alarm earlier in the night and found the rear door unsecured. The business was cleared, and nothing appeared out of place at that time. There were no signs of forced entry to the rear door. While officers were on the scene, FLOCK was utilized from the PD in an attempt to identify a possible suspect vehicle. In narrowing the search to just cameras in that area and in the potential time frame, a suspected vehicle had a hit using FLOCK cameras.
3-17 Police cited a Campbell Street man after he was observed with an open container of alcohol, to wit: an open 23.5 oz can of Four Loko (13.9 % alcohol), while walking across the grounds of 1850 2nd Street the man was cited for open container.
