This is a sampling of Cuyahoga Falls police reports made available April 30th and is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all events occurring in the city. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty.

4-18  An Anderson Road woman reported to police that an unknown suspect devised a scheme to attempt to defraud her of $25,000. The suspect emailed the victim stating there was a PayPal bill in her name. The suspect advised he was with the fraud detection team with Huntington and requested the victim withdraw that amount in cash and meet up with him or deposit it into an ATM. The victim stopped from continuing the scheme before she lost any money and is not interested in pressing charges at this time.

4-19  Police noticed a vehicle with its hazards on at the corner of Second Street and Wadsworth Avenue. Upon contact, the female told officers she is a Lyft driver and a male had vomited in her vehicle. The male was highly intoxicated and continued vomiting. Paramedics cleared the male. Police transported him back to his home and he was given a citation for disorderly conduct intox and released to his mother.

4-19  A Hardman Drive Resident reports that one known and one unknown suspect threw a rock at her bedroom window causing it to shatter the glass. Repair cost is $145. The suspects also threw multiple rocks at the victim’s other bedroom window causing multiple scratch marks. The victim does want to press charges.

4-20  Police responded to a noise complaint in the 1600 block of 23st Street where they heard music coming from the garage of the home. The officer spoke to the resident who turned down the music coming from the radio of his motorcycle upon the officer’s request. The suspect was then warned for disorderly conduct.

4-22  During a traffic stop on Route 8 South at Howe Road a driver displayed criminal indicators. A K9 unit from Northfield PD responded and alerted on the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed a digital scale with white residue, as well as uncovering a glass pipe with burnt/white residue. The driver was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and traffic violations, then released. The illegal items were seized.

4-22  Police responded to a restaurant on the 400 block of Howe Avenue where a Hudson man reported that he left his wallet accidentally. When the man returned to collect his wallet all the large bills had been stolen. The man knows there was over $500 but less than $600 in one-hundred-dollar bills and twenty dollar bills. The man will sign charges and there are leads.

4-23  A New Jersey man reports to police that his father who resides in a nursing home in Cuyahoga Falls has been a victim of theft. While going through his father’s checks he discovered someone forged his father’s signature on a Fifth/Third personal check in the sum of $4,100. There are leads and a suspect. The son will prosecute on behalf of his father.

4-23 A Morrison Avenue resident reports being a victim of a bitcoin scam. After befriending an unknown individual on Facebook, the suspect opened a bank account using her information and arranged to have checks mailed to her. As instructed the victim wrote and deposited several checks from the new account into her personal Huntington account, totaling $13,150. With the promise that the checks would clear, the victim purchased $4100 worth of Bitcoin and transferred it to the unknown individual. The previously deposited checks did not clear, and the funds were removed from her account. The victim will prosecute.

4-24  A Silver Lake resident reported to police that on April 19 an unknown male keyed her 2022 Blue Tesla in the parking lot of Staples on Howe Avenue. The victim will prosecute if the suspect is identified. No leads on suspect at this time.

4-24  While on patrol on Portage Trail near Sixth Street, police observed a male by the bus stop drinking something from a plastic bag. Police made contact with the suspect and found an open container of beer in the plastic bag. The suspect was issued a warning for open container and advised on city liquor laws. Cleared without further incident.

4-26  Loss Prevention at a Howe Avenue department store reports that a suspect placed four packs of clothing (including socks, tank tops, underwear and t-shirts) into a backpack and ran out of the store without paying for the items. The officer on scene observed video footage of the suspect. The suspect was found by a fast-food restaurant across the street with the merchandise on him and he admitted to stealing the merchandise. He also had a warrant for Parole Violation – Robbery. The store did prosecute for the theft and the suspect was charged for theft and then was taken to Summit County Jail on his warrant. The merchandise was returned to loss prevention on scene.

4-26  Police responded to the 700 block of Howe Avenue for the reports of a subject walking in the roadway while under the influence of an intoxicant. Officers received multiple calls on the individual due to him walking and rolling on the ground in the middle of Howe Avenue. While speaking with the man in an unprovoked manner, he swung and hit an officer in the face with a closed fist. The strike left a minor laceration underneath the officer’s right eye. The suspect was subsequently arrested by officers. He was transported to Western Reserve Hospital to be medically evaluated and upon his release was booked at the Cuyahoga Falls Jail. Upon clearing booking the suspect was transported to the Summit County Jail.

4-28  Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated driver in the 1800 block of Front Street identified by the license plate. After locating and stopping the vehicle, they spoke with the driver and observed signs of impairment. The driver failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. He was arrested and later refused to take a breath test. The driver was booked, charged, and released to a sober party.
