This is a sampling of Cuyahoga Falls police reports made available January 22 and is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all events occurring in the city. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty.
1-11 An employee at a women’s boutique reports that a customer placed a device down the front of her pants and left the store without paying, resulting in a loss of $139.99. Security footage showed the woman attempting to hide behind another female while placing the object in her pants. The manager stated she would like to prosecute. A charge was completed.
1-13 Two unknown suspects purchased four packs of Newport 100 cigarettes at a drugstore located in the 2600 block of State Road. The two unknown suspects used four fake coupons for $10 off a pack of cigarettes, resulting in $40 off the total transaction. The store lead reported that the two unknown suspects have been trying to print the coupons at the store coupon printer and that this has been occurring for multiple weeks. The manager stated the store does wish to pursue prosecution.
1-15 A volunteer at a State Road clinic reports that, while protesting, individuals were playing kazoos which caused him and his wife alarm and annoyance. The protesters stated they are only playing the kazoos when patients are walking in, getting screamed at by the protesters. The volunteers stated the protestors are yelling “murderers.” At this time there are no other calls or complaints about the kazoos, and no citations were given. Nothing further at this time.
1-15 The payroll manager for a local landscaping company reports that a previously-issued payroll check to a known party had been used to create a new check from their business and fraudulently cashed for $480. It is unknown where the check was cashed, however it was possibly in the city of Cuyahoga Falls. There are leads and the owner of the landscaping company will sign charges.
1-17 Police responded to a welfare check of a male slumped over the wheel in the drive-thru lane of a Mexican carry out restaurant. Police located the vehicle leaving the parking lot without its headlights on and a traffic stop was made. The driver was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after a consented search of his vehicle found tin foil with scorch marks and residue, a plastic straw with residue, and a rolled $1 bill with scorch marks on the end.
1-16 Officers were dispatched to a theft in progress at a department store in the 400 block of Howe Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found the suspect’s vehicle in which the suspect was in the passenger seat. The items stolen included clothing, a trash bin, and a drink. All items were recovered and valued at $246.95. The suspect was released on scene with a summons and trespassed from the store location. Store security signed the complaint.
1-17 Another call to a department store in the 400 block of Howe Avenue reports that a suspect exited the store without paying for $551.16 worth of goods. The suspect then left the items with loss prevention outside and fled the scene in his vehicle. A warrant for M1 theft has been issued for the arrest of the suspect.
1-17 A Baily Road resident states between the hours of 0200 and 0500 his vehicle was broken into while parked and unoccupied in the parking lot of their listed address. A Taurus G3C 9MM pistol and magazine, $400 in cash, Discover credit card, and Chase debit card were stolen from the vehicle. The cards were attempted to be used but have been cancelled. The firearm has been entered as stolen through N.C.I.C. CFPD has leads and this matter is currently under investigation.
1-18 Upon arrival at the area of 2500 Chestnut Boulevard found a vehicle blocking the roadway with the driver unconscious at the wheel. The driver was eventually able to be woken up and officers observed multiple indicators of impairment. The suspect was placed through SFSTs, and concluding the test he was subsequently arrested. As the suspect was being taken into custody he complained of chest pains and he was transported to the Western Reserve Hospital. While at the hospital the suspect refused to provide officers with a blood or urine sample. A metal pipe containing burnt marijuana was found in the center console of the vehicle and the suspect was served citations and released to the care of Western Reserve Hospital. The vehicle was towed to B&B towing.
1-19 Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Second Street near the Route 8 South on-ramp for not using a turn signal. The driver admitted to drinking prior to driving and stated that they had just left the bar. The suspect performed poorly on SFSTs and was placed under arrest for OVI. A 2255 form was completed. A small bag containing what the suspect stated was “cocaine” was found in his right pants pocket. The suspect refused to give any breath, blood, or urine test.
