The Cuyahoga Falls festival seasons starts this weekend as the Downtown Pavilion becomes home of Falls Downtown Fridays for eight weeks this summer. Beginning Friday June 14th, the first festival of the season will be The River City Pop Culture Festival (RCPCF), returning for its second year in the Falls.
“We are thrilled to welcome back the third season of Falls Downtown Fridays with River City Pop Culture Fest,” Mayor Don Walters said in a press release for the upcoming festivals.
Sponsored by Western Reserve Hospital and Cascade Auto Group, the RCPCF kicks off Friday at 7pm as 91.3 The Summit sets the mood with 80s music as an introduction to a special Flicks on the Falls showing of Back to the Future in the amphitheater at dark. Continuing Saturday from 10am to 10pm, pop culture vendors will be set up in the Downtown Pavilion, selling handmade crafts, art, and toys, along with local food vendors and craft beer, plus activities for kids and special character appearances. In addition to character appearances, Rubber City Cosplay be returning this year, dressed in their favorite costumes taking photos with fans, as well running the cosplay contest, allowing people of all ages to become their favorite characters for the day.
Live music on Saturday will begin at 1pm on stage with local rock, punk, and other geeky bands from around Ohio. Northcoast Shakedown, an Akron punk rock and blues band, start off the day followed by the Medina band Flipcoin, whose music is reminiscent of Radiohead and They Might Be Giants. Dead End Job, a more aggressive punk band from Kent will then precede 3rd Alarm Band, who will perform a slew of classic rock covers to close out the night.
Falls Downtown Fridays will continue June 21st with Crafty Mart, an Akron-based local artisan spot for crafts and homemade goods that will bring its marketplace to the pavilion. On June 28th, the River Rock Fest takes the stage as local bands are highlighted for the night, while local public safety officials will be honored the following week, July 5th, for Stars & Stripes, featuring local country band Buck Naked Band. Taste of the Falls returns on July 12th with culinary treats from all around town, while Kids Fest brings entertainment for children and families on July 26th with arts and crafts, dance, storytelling, music, and plenty of interactive play for all ages, including a special Flicks on the Falls showing of The Incredibles 2. On August 2nd, Soul, Rhythm, & Brews will focus on local craft breweries, restaurants, and above all the blues. Rounding out the summer will be Culture Fest on August 9th, an event celebrating the multicultural community that is Cuyahoga Falls with music, food, and the arts.
“The excitement surrounding Downtown Cuyahoga Falls continues to grow with new businesses and events for residents and visitors to enjoy,” remarks Mayor Don Walters.
