This is a sampling of Cuyahoga Falls police reports made available October 29 and is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all events occurring in the city. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty.
10-17 An Akron man was found passed out and unresponsive in the driver’s seat of his Chevy Traverse while stopped on the roadway. The suspect refused EMS assistance, performed field sobriety tests, and was subsequently arrested. The suspect provided a BAC result of 0.207 and was booked, charged, and released to a sober party.
10-19 A seafood restaurant in the 700 block of Howe Avenue reported two unknown females ate meals worth $28.06 and $30.24 then ran out the front without paying. The two unknown females fled in an unknown newer model black Kia. The owner does not wish to prosecute.
10-19 Police responded to a discount tool store in the 300 block of Howe Avenue where it was reported that a 42-year-old Norton woman had concealed various merchandise items valued at $34.46 and walked past all points of sale. The store did sign charges. The suspect was issued a summons and transferred into the custody of Barberton PD on a warrant.
10-21 Police stopped a 26-year-old Mogadore man for a traffic violation on Howe Avenue near Main Street. When officers asked him to get out of the vehicle, he attempted to physically pull away from officers several times and did not listen to officers’ instructions. The suspect was found to be in possession of a glass smoking pipe with drug residue inside that he attempted to break with his foot to destroy the evidence while in the back of a police cruiser. The front seat passenger was found to be in possession of 2.6 grams of Methamphetamine in a plastic tied-off baggie. The passenger refused to listen to officers’ commands by attempting to hide the baggie and refused to step out of the car. She then actively resisted arrest by physically pulling away and kicking and using dead weight when officers tried to handcuff her. Officers also found a glass smoking pipe with drug residue inside her purse. The driver was charged with: Obstructing Official Business, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Tampering with evidence. The passenger was charged with, Possession of controlled substance, Obstructing official business, Resisting arrest.
10-21 While investigating a traffic accident in the 1200 block of Bailey Road the driver of the at-fault vehicle was found to be operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The driver refused field sobriety tests while on scene, but later submitted to a breath test with a result of 0.194. The driver’s vehicle was towed away from the scene by B&B Towing and he was was cited for OVI, ACDA, and possessing an open container in a motor vehicle. He was later released on a PR Bond to the custody of his father.
10-21 A Cuyahoga Falls mother reports that an unknown party took her 16-year-old juvenile son’s Hyper Havoc mountain bike from the bike rack at the Natatorium without his consent. The mountain bike is black with gray accents. The family wishes to prosecute. There are leads. Total value of loss is $200.
10-22 A Howe Avenue discount store reported to police that an unknown white female filled a cart with camping supplies then left the store without paying for the items. Total value of loss is $267.91. The store will prosecute. There are leads/suspects.
10-23 Police responded to the 2200 block of High Street where a resident reported an unknown person stole the catalytic converter off of his Nissan between October 21 and October 23. The victim does not know the cost to repair. The victim will prosecute.
10-24 A tool rental business in the 1300 block of Main Street reported to police that a known suspect had not returned an Echo 14″ chainsaw. The manager reports the chainsaw is valued at $259.99. The manager does wish to prosecute. Contact was made with the suspect who advised he would return it on that date. A follow-up was scheduled to be made on October 25 with the business to see if the chainsaw has been returned.
10-24 Officers investigated a complaint made by the city’s housing department about a junk motor vehicle in the 2800 block of Norwood Street. A Jeep was parked on the street with a flat passenger-side tire and rear driver-side tire. The vehicle owner was warned and notified of Cuyahoga Falls City Ordinance 351.18. Patrol will follow up.
10-26 Officers made contact with a minor at a tavern in the 2200 block of Front Street. The juvenile smelled like alcohol and admitted to consuming alcohol that he grabbed off a table inside the bar. The juvenile was charged with possession/consumption of alcohol while underage. The juvenile was transported to his residence and transferred into the custody of a family member.
10-26 Police responded to a sports bar in the 3000 block of State Road where the manager reported that an unknown male with a facemask and construction vest was loitering in the dining room for hours without buying anything. The manager and staff asked the male to leave. He responded with “call the cops then.” Once on scene the manager declined prosecution and wanted the male trespassed. The male refused to identify but willingly left. The male was told he was trespassed and can’t return should management recognize him again.
10-26 Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 400 block Sackett Avenue where a known juvenile sustained injuries. The suspect stated that he had picked up a firearm believing it to be unloaded, and negligently pulled the trigger, causing the weapon to discharge, striking another juvenile. During the investigation two of the juvenile suspects provided officers with false information, hindering the investigation. Officers also learned that a third suspect had retrieved the firearm from the scene and fled to prevent police from locating it. CFFD personnel responded to the scene and transported the injured juvenile to Akron City Hospital for treatment. Complaints were signed for each named juvenile.
