This is a sampling of Cuyahoga Falls police reports made available January 8 and is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all events occurring in the city. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty.
1-3 Police were summoned to the 2900 block of Bailey Road for a dog running at large. Police located the dog and contacted the resident. The resident was warned for dog at large and the dog was returned with the promise that it be a good doggie. Cleared without further incident.
1-4 Police responded to a report of shoplifting at a department store in the 400 block of Home Avenue. Asset protection reported an unknown female walked past the last point of sale without paying for $220.33 worth of merchandise. The unknown female was stopped by asset protection and all the unpaid items were recovered. The unknown female left prior to officer arrival in a Chevrolet passenger car with an unknown driver.
1-4 During a traffic stop at Howe Avenue the officer spoke with the male driver, male passenger, and rear passenger. The rear passenger provided an ID belonging to another person, claiming it was her own. A K9 was deployed around the vehicle and alerted, prompting a search. Officers found a used hypodermic needle, tin foil with burnt residue, and a fake dollar bill with burnt residue. Upon further questioning, the rear passenger’s ID did not match her physical appearance, and she refused to correctly identify herself, insisting her name was the one on the ID. The male passenger provided the woman’s correct information, revealing she had an outstanding warrant in Summit County. Police contacted the woman whose name appeared on the license who denied knowing the suspect and expressed a desire to press charges. The rear passenger was arrested on warrant and will served her charges on a later date.
1-5 Police responded to an accident in the 800 block of Hardy Road. Upon arrival it was determined a 47-year-old Akron man was found to be operating a vehicle while impaired after causing a traffic accident. The suspect was transported to Akron General Hospital for evaluation. The suspect also submitted to a chemical test with results pending. His vehicle was towed.
1-5 Police made a traffic stop at Portage Trail and Schiller Avenue that led to an arrest for a 23-year-old Akron woman who charged for OVI after she was stopped for a traffic violation and found to be impaired while operating her vehicle and while having a suspended driver’s license. The woman was transported to the CFPD for booking where she submitted to a breath test and blew a .185 BAC. She was cited for OVI, over limits, DUS, and driving in marked lanes. She was given a signature bond and released to a sober adult. Her vehicle was impounded.
1-5 During a traffic stop at Howe Avenue and Main Street it was discovered that a passenger had a warrant through Cuyahoga Falls and was placed under arrest and transported to CFPD. Upon arrival a search of the suspect’s person yielded a plastic zip-lock bag with crystal residue. The suspect admitted the residue was meth. He was booked, given a summons, and transferred to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office’s custody due to his outstanding warrants through them.
1-5 Police were called to a women’s clothing store in the 550 block of Howe Avenue for the report of a woman concealing merchandise (jeans) in her purse and leaving the store without paying. The employee verified the suspect entered the empty changing room with multiple pairs of jeans/pants and only returned one. The manager valued the unreturned clothing at $40. An unknown female with the suspect stole an Avery Dennison tagging gun valued at $15. The tagging gun was located in the returns section of the store. A warrant on complaint was signed against the suspect for theft. The store also wishes to prosecute for the theft of the tagging gun.
1-6 A 22-year-old Beech Street woman was arrested for OVI after it was reported she struck a trash can while attempting to back into her driveway. The suspect was found in the driver seat of her vehicle with the engine running. She stated she had been drinking and police could detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person. The suspect was taken back to the station for booking where she refused to give a breath sample. The suspect was charged with OVI, refusal, DUS, and improper backing. She was released to a sober individual on a PR bond. Cleared without further incident.
1-6 Police responded to a drug abuse call in the 1000 block of East Broadway Street. Upon arrival officers identified the male. He consented to a search of his person and officers discovered a small bindle that contained an unknown white powdery substance. The male was given a courtesy transport to Akron City Hospital upon his request. The white powdery substance was submitted to BCI to undergo chemical analysis.
1-6 A 43-year-old Akron woman was stopped by police at Bailey Road and Lincoln Avenue. During the traffic stop the police spoke with the driver and discovered her driver’s license was suspended and she had an active warrant for drug possession. The suspect was asked to exit the vehicle and consented to a search of her person. Police found a folded dollar bill with white residue in her pocket. A search of the vehicle yielded no further findings. The suspect mentioned a pre-existing heart issue and requested EMS, who responded and cleared her medically. She was then arrested on the warrant and Summit County took custody of her. The vehicle was towed and illegal items were seized.
1-6 Police made a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Main Street. Upon speaking to the 20-year-old Akron woman who was driving and her two passengers, the officer detected the odor of marijuana and observed a marijuana cigarette. A search of the vehicle revealed 5.2 grams of marijuana, of which the driver claimed ownership, 1.3 grams of marijuana, for which one passenger claimed ownership, and 0.8 grams of marijuana, which the other passenger claimed. All individuals were cited and released.
