This is a sampling of Cuyahoga Falls police reports made available February 26 and is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all events occurring in the city. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty.
2-14 A Graham Road home improvement store reported to police that an unknown female came into the store and attempted to steal copper wire. The female went past all points of sale with the wire hidden in her stroller. Store management confronted the girl and recovered the wire. The female then fled on foot before police arrived. Prosecution is desired. Officers checked the area and did not locate any suspects. The total value of the theft is approximately $286.
2-15 Loss prevention at a Howe Avenue department store reported a shoplifter was in custody. The suspect stole merchandise from the store by using a shopping cart to push the property past the final point of sale and out of the store. All merchandise was recovered by the store. The theft created a total loss of $64.03. The suspect was charged with theft.
2-15 Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu for equipment violations. Officers gave the vehicle a reasonable amount of time to yield to emergency lights and sirens before it was evident the vehicle was not stopping and was going to flee and elude officers’ signals to bring the vehicle to a stop. Officers did not engage any further into a pursuit and promptly terminated. The suspect is an unknown male.
2-15 Officers initiated a traffic stop on State Route 8 and Howe Avenue on a 2008 Ford Fusion and identified the occupants. Officers observed an open container in plain view inside the vehicle. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, an open Budweiser beer bottle was located on the floorboard of where the passenger was sitting. The passenger was issued a citation for the open container and both parties were released from the scene.
2-15 Police initiated a traffic stop on Oakwood Avenue after observing several marked lanes violations. The driver admitted to drinking and had just left the bar. The driver also displayed several indicators of impairment. The driver performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested for OVI. The suspect consented to provide a blood and urine sample and was issued a citation and transported to Detox. Results from the samples are pending.
2-15 Police made a traffic stop in the 400 block of Graham Road and noticed an odor of alcohol emanating from the driver who also had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. The driver voluntarily performed sobriety testing and was arrested after the completion of testing. The suspect refused to submit to a requested blood and urine sample and was charged with OVI and turning at intersections.
2-18 The library Fiscal Officer contacted police after learning that a check written in the amount of $548.16, to a business vendor and sent via mail, was intercepted and fraudulently cashed. The employee was uncertain about prosecution and advised that they were already in contact with their bank regarding a refund.
2-18 During a traffic stop police found a driver to have his license under suspension. Police noted signs of impairment and observed open alcohol containers in the vehicle. The suspect submitted to field sobriety tests which indicated impairment. A search of the vehicle uncovered an open container of Fireball whiskey, along with other empty alcohol and beer containers. The suspect was arrested and later submitted to a blood/urine test at Western Reserve Hospital. He was booked, charged, and released to a sober party. The vehicle was towed by B&B Towing.
2-20 An altercation between drivers at the 2000 block of Portage Trail. Subject (A) double parked his car on Portage Trail in front of Chipotle, blocking the car of Subject (B) a parking space. In retaliation, subject (B) purposely slammed his driver’s door into the rear passenger door of the other car, causing a large dent. Subject (A) was cited for illegal parking and he signed charges against Subject (B) for criminal damaging. Subject (B) was booked and released with a court date. Damages will approximately cost $200.
2-22 Police took a report for a theft of a vehicle in the 200 block of Howe Avenue. The victim believes he left his vehicle unlocked while shopping. The timeframe for the theft is approximately 13:00-13:20 hours. The victim also reported he had three $50 Amazon gift cards in the vehicle, and they were the only items of value. There are no leads and the victim wishes to prosecute. The vehicle is to be entered into LEADS as stolen.
2-22 Loss prevention of a department store in the 400 block of Howe Avenue reported to police two females (possibly juveniles) stole approximately $1,553.42 worth of various store merchandise past the point of sale. The two suspects fled in a white Honda Accord that was waiting outside the store and left the merchandise out front where it was recovered. The store is willing to prosecute. There is a lead.
2-24 Police made a traffic stop at Valley Road near 23rd Street and identified the driver and the passenger. The passenger was found to have two open containers of alcohol,1 Bud Ice and 1 MD 20/20 Banana Red. During a consent search of the passenger, police located a plastic bag with 0.1 grams of crack cocaine and 1 plastic container containing 0.2 grams of methamphetamine. During a search the driver was found to be in possession of a blue plastic container with 0.7 grams of meth, a pen tube with a white residue, and 1 folded $1 bill with a white residue. The driver was booked, charged and released on a PR bond. The passenger was booked, charged, and transferred over to Summit County Sheriff’s Office on their warrant. All meth and crack cocaine was sent to BCI for testing.
