Legislation scheduled for discussion
Finance & Appropriations:
B-77: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to enter into a contract or contracts, without competitive bidding, with S&S Excavating Inc. for the maintenance and repair of the city’s storm water, sanitary sewer, and water distribution systems. Water superintendent Russ Kring explained that the contractor the city has been using for ditch and culvert cleaning is nearing the amount that the Board of Control has already approved this year so they are before council to gain approval to continue using this vendor who has a very good record with the city. The committee voted to bring this out for a vote next Monday before all of council.
Public Affairs:
B-78: A resolution expressing support for and urging the passage of Issue 1, the County of Summit Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADM) Board renewal and increase levy at the General Election to be held on November 4, 2025. Dr Doug Smith made a presentation of the services his agency provides to the residents of Summit county. He gave some interesting statistics about mental health and substance abuse and how his agency provides 77% of the funding needed to keep the agency open comes from this levy. The committee voted to bring this resolution out for a vote next Monday before all of council.
B-77: A resolution expressing support for and urging passage of Issue 52, the Cuyahoga Falls City School District renewal levy at the General Election to be held on November 4. Superintendent Dr. Andrea Celico presented information to the committee pertaining to the levy that was originally passed in 1991 then renewed in 2021 and now is up again. The monies will be used for general operating expenses. The system has currently been “tightening belts’ in the form of not replacing retired employees and the sale of many of the vacant properties the school system owns. The committee voted to bring the resolution out for a vote next Monday before all of council.
