City Council Minutes Report: November 13, 2023

City Council News & Politics

Cuyahoga Falls City Council holds regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Council committee meetings are held on the first and third Mondays in order to allow councilmembers to publicly discuss pending legislation that will be voted on at regular meetings. The public is free to comment on pending legislation during the allowed time set aside as part of committee meetings.

New Ordinances & Resolutions

B-124: An ordinance authorizing the procurement of Lake Erie Construction Company to install downtown historical signage on State Route 8. Assigned to the finance committee for discussion next Monday.

B-125: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to enter into a contract or contracts for employment agency services related to seasonal and occasional employees. Assigned to the finance committee for discussion next Monday.

B-126: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to enter into a contract or contracts, according to law, for the replacement of curb on Silver Lake Avenue. Assigned to the finance committee for discussion next week.

B-127: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to enter into the 2023 NPP Power Pool participant schedule with American Municipal Power, Inc. Assigned to the finance committee for discussion next Monday.

B-128: An ordinance authorizing the mayor, as director of public safety, to sell to Source Products, Inc., certain used Fire Department equipment. Assigned to the finance committee for discussion next week.

B-129: An ordinance authorizing the Park and Recreation Board to enter into a contract or contracts for the interior renovation after publicly advertising for bids, of the Brookledge Golf Club Clubhouse. Assigned to the finance committee for discussion next Monday.

Reports of Council’s Standing Committees

Finance & Appropriations:

B-117: An ordinance consenting to the resurfacing of State Route 8 from the southern corporation limit to the northern corporation limit, within the City of Cuyahoga Falls, by the State of Ohio, authorizing financial cooperation thereof. Passed 11-0

Public Affairs:

B-123: An ordinance amending and/or supplementing Title 7 Taxation, Chapter 164, Municipal Income Tax, to comply with state law mandates. Passed 11-0

The finance committee also held a special meeting Monday night to continue discussion on the city’s 2024 budget. Both chiefs from Police and Fire reported that their budgets would be very close to what they spent last year as far as staffing and training with the only real increase in the police budget to be in the records department as a result of police body cams. The labor to process video for public records requests is very significant as compared to the days when the only records were on paper. Department heads from Street, Sanitation, Utility Billing and Building and Grounds also reported that their expenses would be very much in line with the 2023 budget. The finance committee will continue budget discussions next Monday, Nov.20 at 6:30 pm.
