Cuyahoga Falls City Council holds regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Council committee meetings are held on the first and third Mondays in order to allow council members to publicly discuss pending legislation that will be voted on at regular meetings. The public is free to comment on pending legislation during the allowed time set aside as part of committee meetings.
The following new legislation was assigned the proper committees on May 23.
Temp. Ord. A-57: An ordinance accepting the planning commission recommendation for the construction of ten (10) single family attached dwelling units to be constructed within three (3) separate buildings located on property at the southwest corner of Second Street and Wadsworth Avenue, for the Summit Housing Development Corporation was assigned to planning and zoning committee.
Temp. Ord. A-58: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to enter into a contract or contracts, according to law, with a firm or firms, for concrete pavement repairs to various streets. Assigned to public and industrial improvements committee.
Temp. Ord. A-59: A resolution of intent to appropriate certain property along West Portage Trail Extension between State Road and Northampton Road. Assigned to public and industrial improvements committee.
Temp. Ord. A-60: An ordinance amending Chapter 1371 of the City of Cuyahoga Falls Codified Ordinances, relating to the BOCA National Property Maintenance Code. Assigned to public affairs committee.
Then Cuyahoga Falls City Council voted on the ordinances and resolutions discussed in committee meetings last Monday, all passing 11-0.
Planning and Zoning Committee
A-51: An ordinance authorizing and approving the Final Subdivision Plat for Plaza at Chapel Hill – Third Replat located on the south side of Howe Avenue between Main Street and Center Drive.
Finance and Appropriations
A-52: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to enter into a contract or contracts, without competitive bidding, with Independent Diesel Service for the maintenance and repair of city diesel electric generators.
A-53: An ordinance authorizing the Mayor as director of public safety to enter into a contract or contracts, without competitive bidding, with Motorola, Inc. for the maintenance of the public safety regional dispatch system equipment.
A-56: A resolution authorizing the city of Cuyahoga Falls to commit a 25% required match for a brownfield remediation grant, administered through the Ohio Department of Development, for the necessary environmental cleanup of real property, currently owned by the Community Improvement Corporation of Cuyahoga Falls, and known as 333 Pleasant Meadow Boulevard.
Public and Industrial Improvements Committee
A-54: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to enter into a contract or contracts, according to law, for the replacement of the roof on Fire Station 5, located at 3497 Wyoga Lake Road.
A-55: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to enter into a contract or contracts, according to law, for the construction of Paddle Park and the expansion of the existing corner plaza located at 2170 Front Street.
Under Miscellaneous Business, Finance Director Bryan Hoffman distributed Report 21 to members of council (Report 21 is a snapshot of the city’s finances and it is distributed to council members every quarter so they can ask questions and be informed on the state of the city’s finances). Highlights this quarter include property tax revenue up two percent; county and state revenue is also up and our income tax revenue is up 2.7%.
Hotel/Motel tax is still down 15% (partially due to Covid-19) but the deficit has been decreasing.
Leisure Time account shows an uptick in Natatorium memberships and an increase in Waterworks memberships is expected as well.
Tallmadge Road resident Kenny King reported that he was very happy with the Dogwood Tree planted in his name between the City Building and the Natatorium with a plaque to be placed at the base of the tree in the next couple weeks. King also reported that after the disappearance of his bicycle Saturday afternoon, a local business (which prefers to remain anonymous) had purchased him a new bike, and local bike shop owner Bob Peyak from Wheel and Wrench will accessorize the new bicycle in the same manner as the one that disappeared Saturday.
