City Council Minutes Report: June 10, 2024

City Council News & Politics

Cuyahoga Falls City Council holds regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Council committee meetings are held on the first and third Mondays in order to allow councilmembers to publicly discuss pending legislation that will be voted on at regular meetings. The public is free to comment on pending legislation during the allowed time set aside as part of committee meetings.

A-55: An ordinance amending section 181.04 of the Codified Ordinances relating to the award and execution of contracts. This legislation was assigned to the finance committee who met in a special meeting Monday night.

During the special meeting a presentation was made by city engineer Tony Demasi. State law has dictated that when awarding contracts the bid must not be more than 10% of the engineers estimate. Our city ordinances are written to coincide with state laws and recently the state has raised that threshold to 20 percent. This legislation would return our ordinance to comply with the new state law. Demasi went on to thank council for the special meeting so that he can move ahead with bids currently going through his office for the project at State and Wyoga Lake Road along with the projects taking place on South Front Street. Council voted later Monday night 11-0 to approve this measure.

A-56: An ordinance approving the 2024-2028 Community Development Block Grant Consolidated Plan Document. Assigned to the community development committee for discussion Monday June 17 at 6:30pm.

A-57: An ordinance authorizing the mayor to execute and submit the Annual Action Plan to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for program year 2024. Assigned to the community development committee for discussion next Monday.
