This is a sampling of Cuyahoga Falls police reports made available August 27 and is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all events occurring in the city. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty.

8-13  A grocery store in the 2600 block of Bailey Road contacted police after observing a suspect take a bottle of Rickaloff Vodka and leave the store without paying. The bottle, found to cost $3.73, was retrieved from the suspect and given back to the store. The suspect was arrested for theft and trespassing and reminded to stay off of the store  property.

8-19  A drug store in the 600 block of Portage Trail reported to police the manager and other staff members observed an unknown white female take merchandise (total value $47.22) on the dates of August 11 and August. Both occasions the white female entered the store and placed items in her sleeves as well as in a large black bag. The unknown female does have a noticeable tattoo on the side of her neck. The drug store does wish to pursue charges.

8-20  A Loomis Avenue resident reported to police that someone took the handicap placard out of her vehicle. The handicap placard was in the victim’s car that was unlocked in her driveway. Total cost to replace the placard is $15.

8-21  An  Akron man crashed into a pole and tree at Northampton Rd and Portage Trail. After getting the driver out of his vehicle to be seen by EMS, officers located a baggie in plain sight on the driver seat that contained a white rock like substance that appeared to be a narcotic. Based on officers’ observations the driver was believed to be impaired. The driver was transported to Western Reserve Hospital by EMS. At the hospital, he refused to submit to a blood draw and was placed under arrest. The substance was later field tested and found to test positive for cocaine. He was arrested for traffic offenses, OVI, and possession of a controlled substance. He was later released on a signature bond.

8-21  A discount store in the 400 block of Howe Avenue reports a known female was using offensive language in the store. Employees instructed the female to leave the store and she refused. Officers arrived and spoke with the female outside. The female was informed she was trespassed from the property and not to return or she would be arrested. The female left without incident.

8-22  While en-route to a separate call, officers observed a Ford Explorer traveling westbound on Steels Corners Road committing multiple lane violations. Officers conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver and passenger, observing signs of impairment, and asked the driver to submit to field sobriety tests. Ultimately, officers arrested the driver for OVI and passenger for open container. Both parties were released to a sober party after booking.

8-22  Police arrested a 20-year-old Canton man for numerous charges after a traffic stop on Portage Trail Extension after the driver was found to be in possession of two firearms and Marijuana while being under the age of 21. The driver was arrested for: Carrying Concealed Weapons, Improper Handling Firearms in a Motor Vehicle,  Carrying Concealed Weapons, Obstructing Official Business, Possession of Marijuana, and Speed.

8-23  Police were requested at Downview Sports Center where the manager had called and advised there was a disorderly female in the lobby yelling and cussing at him and around children. Officers made contact with the suspect who was intoxicated and upset about her ex-boyfriend. She was transported back to her residence in Akron and issued a citation for Disorderly Conduct.

8-23  Officers observed a blue Mitsubishi driving southbound on Second Street at Portage Trail. Officers were recently out with the registered owner and she was cited for Disorderly Conduct for being intoxicated at Downview Sports Center. Police observed her driving the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop with lights and sirens. The driver  was taken through field sobriety tests and was arrested for OVI. She was transported and booked at the Cuyahoga Falls Jail and released on a PR bond. She refused to take any further testing.

8-23  A 55-year-old Cuyahoga Falls man reported to police that his bicycle was stolen when he went into a convenience store in the 2700 block of Front Street for approximately 5 minutes. The victim reports when he exited the store his bike was missing. The victim described his bike as a 27″ blue Miyata and prosecution is desired. The victim later contacted police to report locating the stolen bicycle. Upon finding the bicycle he longer wishes to prosecute. The case was closed. No further action.

8-23  A Second Street resident contacted police to report that her upstairs neighbor was allowing their dog to urinate on the patio outside her apartment and it was dripping downstairs onto the victims patio, the neighbor was warned. 

8-24  Police made a traffic stop in the 2000 block of Second Street after watching the driver fail to stop at a red light. The driver had indicators of impairment and was administered standardized field sobriety tests. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest. The driver submitted a breath sample of .157 BAC. and was issued traffic citations and taken to Detox.

8-24  Police responded to a report of shoplifting at a convenience store in the 1200 block of Main Street. Officers spoke with an employee who reported seeing a known suspect leave the point of sales with items in his backpack that he did not pay for. The value of the stolen items came out to $8.86. Officers asked the employee if he wanted to pursue charges and he replied yes. The suspect was identified to have an active warrant out of Summit County and was transported to an agreed location where officers gave custody of the suspect to a Summit County Deputy along with a summons for the theft.

8-25  Police received an abandoned vehicle complaint in the 1300 block of Falls Avenue. The complaint stated that the vehicle had expired registration and flat tires. When police arrived, they saw the vehicle did have expired registration, but the tires were not flat. Police attempted to contact the registered owner, or the resident at the above address but were unable to contact anyone. The vehicle was cited under Cuyahoga Falls ORD 351.19. Follow up on September 6 for a second cite, if the vehicle is still in violation of ORD 351.19.
