This is a sampling of Cuyahoga Falls police reports made available July 30 and is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all events occurring in the city. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty.
7-18 A Cuyahoga Falls woman reported that she sent $450 through Chime, a banking app, to a known person who claimed to be a realtor through HUD. The victim reported that this was the security deposit and first month’s rent for a property in the 2200 block of Prange Drive and that the realtor had informed the victim she was approved for the house. Upon finding out that the house was rented to a different person, the victim requested her security deposit and first month’s rent back. The victim reported that the known subject was not sending the money back, and she does wish to pursue prosecution
7-19 It was reported by a bartender that there was a fight outside in the parking lot of the bar in the 2700 block of Front Street. Before police arrival, one male left the scene on foot, while the other male left in an Uber. Police contacted one known male who stated that he had a verbal argument and threw the first punch. The known male said he was with his uncle, for whom he did not want to provide any information. The known male stated that he and the victims shook hands and went their separate ways. The known male was warned for disorderly conduct.
7-20 Police observed an expired license plate on a vehicle driving southbound on State Rd approaching Sackett Avenue and a traffic stop was initiated. The driver was identified and the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was found coming from the vehicle. An open 24 oz Steel reserve alcoholic beverage was located. The driver consented to field sobriety testing and was found to not be impaired. He was given a citation and released.
7-20 A Tyler Avenue resident called police to report two unknown juveniles stole two unsecured bicycles from outside their residence. The victim reports the approximate value of the bicycles is a combined $410. The juvenile suspects ditched the bicycles around the corner of Moulton Avenue and Elmwood Street Both bicycles were recovered by the victim, and she wishes to prosecute. There are leads.
7-20 Officers were informed of a physical altercation occurring in front of a bar in the 2200 block of Front Street. Upon arrival, officers were informed that a male was urinating on a tent outside the bar while other patrons were able to see. A witness reports attempting to stop the suspect from urinating so close to patrons at the bar and the suspect became physically aggressive. The suspect was cited for disorderly conduct and was given a ride to detox based on his level of voluntary intoxication.
7-20 A passerby called CFPD in reference to an individual being intoxicated while in public. Police located the suspect walking on the sidewalk along State Road. The suspect had an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him, slurred speech, he urinated himself, and had scratches on his knees, hands, and nose from falling due to his intoxication. The suspect was cited and transported to Akron City Hospital due to his intoxication level, injuries, and risk of physical harm to himself.
7-21 An unknown male stole several boxes on camera at a craft store in the 600 block of Howe Avenue. He stole a magnifier costing $49.99 and a light that cost $39.00 for a total of $88.99. The manager stated the man regularly steals from them. The manager also stated they did not want to prosecute. They just want him trespassed. Officers were unable to locate the male.
7-21 Police located a male sleeping on a shed rooftop near Lions Park. The male was identified and became irate and began yelling loudly at officers when asked to leave. Multiple residents were observed looking out their window and/or coming outside due to the noise. The suspect was cited for disorderly conduct and left the park.
7-21 A 16th Street resident reported to police that between 2200 hours on July 20 and 1700 hours on July 21, an unknown suspect stole four pairs of sunglasses, valued at $800 total, from the victim’s unlocked vehicle that was parked in her driveway. The victim wishes to press charges if the suspect is identified. There are currently no leads. The victim was provided a card with victim’s info.
7-22 Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Route 8 near Howe Avenue. Upon observing criminal indicators, the officer asked the driver to exit the vehicle and noticed a needle cap behind his ear. The driver admitted there was a used hypodermic needle in the vehicle, though claimed it wasn’t his. A search was conducted, and the needle was located. While the driver showed signs of drug use, there was no indication of impairment. He was warned for his violations and released. The needle was seized and properly disposed.
7-22 Officers conducted a traffic stop on for a licensing violation. The driver of the vehicle was known to have a suspended drivers license. While conducting a tow inventory of suspect’s vehicle officers located drugs and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was transported to CFPD for booking where he was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was also issued a citation for driving under suspension citation and operating a vehicle without a valid license. The suspect was then released on a personal recognizance bond.
7-23 Officers observed a female known to them walking down the sidewalk of Howe Avenue and advised her she had a warrant through Barberton PD. During a search incident to arrest, officers located 0.5 grams of a white crystal substance, a red snort straw and a body of a syringe in her purse she was carrying. Officers tested the narcotics at the station which showed positive for methamphetamine. The suspect was transported to Barberton Police Department and placed in their custody and charges were signed for her. The next day, officers contacted the suspect and transported her to Cuyahoga Falls Police department where she was booked and given a court date for her new charges.
7-24 Blossom security called and reported that they had an individual who was heavily intoxicated and was unable to leave their event center. Officers spoke with the suspect who yelled and screamed profanities in officers’ presence and was unable to find a ride. The suspect was issued a citation for Disorderly Conduct while intoxicated and was given a court date for Cuyahoga Falls Mayor’s Court. The suspect was placed in a holding cell to be released when sober. Officers cleared without further incident.
7-24 Police responded to the Natatorium where two known males were engaged in a verbal altercation with each other over the weight machine. Both males were warned for Disorderly Conduct.
7-28 A Cuyahoga Falls man reported to police that on July 28 at approximately 1843 hours, an unknown person stole his blue 26″ mountain fury bike from the parking lot of 2015 Third Street. The price of the bike was $175. The victim wishes to prosecute. There are leads.
7-29 Police responded to a discount tool store in the 300 block of Howe Avenue. The manager told police she observed the suspect conceal items on his person and leave the store without paying. The suspect was apprehended outside the store and was charged with theft and released on the scene. The items were valued at $97.92.
