This is a sampling of Cuyahoga Falls police reports made available July 2 and is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all events occurring in the city. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty.
6-12 Maintenance workers at Chestnut Hill Cemetery reported to police that they noticed the gas meter lock had been broken and 46 gallons of gas was missing. The lock had been seen unbroken the previous evening. They noticed it was broken around 1400 hours on June 14. There are no leads and no suspects. Chestnut Hill Cemetery will prosecute.
6-18 Loss prevention at a drugstore in the 600 block of Portage Trail reports that an unknown suspect purchased merchandise from the store using a counterfeit $50 bill. The bill has a faded “1” that can be seen in the corners, with “50” stamped over it. The suspect purchased Pedigree dog food and Maverick cigarettes with this counterfeit bill which totaled $15.13. The suspect did receive change for the $50 counterfeit bill. The store is out $65.13 total, and they will prosecute.
6-20 A resident on the 2600 block of State Road reported that an unknown person stole her Ford Fusion around approximately 1700 hours on June 19 or 20. The victim last saw the car parked in the parking lot of her apartment building. She described the vehicle as having the left front headlight pushed in. The victim did wish to prosecute. Dispatch confirmed that the vehicle was not on the repossession list. Flock last hit on the vehicle on June 4. The vehicle is to be entered as a stolen vehicle in LEADS.
6-21 A drug store on the 600 block of Portage Trail contacted police to report a second incident of counterfeit money. An unknown suspect came into the store and gave two counterfeit $50 bills. The two bills were faded $1 bills as before, stamped over with “50.” At this time the store does not have suspect info, and it is unknown if the suspect purchased any merchandise with these bills or exchanged them. The store will prosecute.
6-22 A bicycle shop in the 2400 block of State Road contacted police after finding an unknown white male approached the rear of the business from the alley. The unknown male used a tool to remove screws that were securing a piece of wood that covered the window. Once the screws were removed, he used a brick to break the wood. No entry was made into the business and no property was stolen. The owner does wish to pursue charges. CFPD does have leads.
6-23 A woman on the 600 block of Dominic Drive reported to police that an unknown male stole her purse containing an HP laptop, wig, and hearing aids, valued at $7,300. She believes the suspect is a food delivery driver who arrived around 1900 hours when she noticed the items missing. The suspect is described as a heavyset white male in his 50s-60s, driving an older beige sedan. The victim wishes to press charges if the suspect is identified. She was provided with a victim assistance short form. The victim called dispatch later and reported the purse was found, and not actually stolen. Case was closed.
6-24 A woman in the 1800 block of Jefferson Avenue reported to police that an unknown suspect stole her rose gold limited edition BMX bike off of her front porch between approximately 0200 and 0500 hours. The bike is valued at $500. The woman does wish to prosecute. There are no leads on suspects at this time.
6-25 Police observed a Chevy Silverado traveling at 84 mph on SR8 North near Graham Road, which is a 55 mph zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was found to not have a license. The other occupants in the vehicle were also not licensed to drive. A tow truck was called and the occupants were advised. Upon an inventory of the vehicle, officers located two 24oz Modelos that were open and cold to the touch. Both were mostly full. Two passengers claimed ownership of the alcohol. The passengers were charged with Possessing Open Containers.
6-26 The owner of an unoccupied rental property in the 2400 block of 14th Street reported that an unknown person entered the house without permission, and likely stayed there overnight, using the utilities. The owner found clothing and hygiene products upon checking the rooms. This occurred between 1100 hours on June 25 and 0900 hours on June 26. The owner advised he believed the doors were locked. There was no sign of forced entry; however, evidence indicated that the suspect entered the house through an unlocked window on the first floor. There was no damage or theft that occurred. The owner did not wish to prosecute.
6-26 Police cited five females ranging in ages of 19-21 for defacing by drawing graffiti with crayons on the lower level retaining wall under the Portage Trail bridge. All four were issued a summons and released on scene.
6-29 Police stopped a driver for an observed marked lanes violation in the 3000 block of State Road. The odor of an alcoholic beverage could be detected from inside the vehicle that he was operating, and he admitted to drinking. He was arrested for OVI and taken back to the station for booking where he was subjected to a breath test and blew a .243 BAC. The driver was charged with OVI, BAC, and driving in marked lanes. He was released to his sober neighbor.
7-1 During a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Front Street police did a probable cause search of the vehicle and a black bandana was found on the floorboard behind the center console. Inside the bandana were 8 hypodermic needles found with 1 being used, a burnt spoon with residue on it, a clear container with 5 paper folds with residue, 1 paper fold with a purple powder inside and 3 snort straws with residue in them. 2 more used hypodermic needles were found in a bag located in the trunk. The items were collected as evidence and the paper fold with the purple powder substance was sent to BCI for testing. Charges pending BCI results. The male was released from the scene.
