City Council Minutes Report: May 5, 2025

City Council News & Politics

Cuyahoga Falls City Council holds regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Council committee meetings are held on the first and third Mondays in order to allow councilmembers to publicly discuss pending legislation that will be voted on at regular meetings. The public is free to comment on pending legislation during the allowed time set aside as part of committee meetings.

Public & Industrial Improvements: 

B-29: An ordinance authorizing the director of public service to enter into a contract or contracts, according to law, for concrete pavement repairs to various streets. This legislation was presented by city engineer Tony Demasi, The is a yearly ordinance and for 2025 the city will continue replacing the roadway on Buchholzer Boulevard. The plan for this year is another 300 feet and the low bid came in at $352k. Work will begin in July and should finish up in August. The committee voted to bring this out for a vote before full council next Monday, May 12.

Community Development:

B-30: An ordinance approving and authorizing the mayor to execute a Community Development Block Grant Agreement with Statewide License Service Corporation for an economic development project. With the construction of Sheetz at Graham Road and Oakwood Drive, the current DMV and license bureau are in the process of relocating to Emidio & Sons Banquet Center at State Road and Bath Road. Community Development Director Diana Colavecchio went on the describe what it took for state approval on the lease for both businesses. She mentioned that along with the license bureau, two other tenants have already been relocated inside the city, thus preserving jobs and payroll taxes.  Also speaking on behalf of this move, Robert Teodosio who currently manages the Cuyahoga Falls office, stated his office currently employs 18 people and is the largest in the state. This legislation would approve $50k in CBDG funds to help the office modernize equipment during the process of this move according to Peggy Szalay, the city’s CBDG fund director. The committee voted to bring this out for a vote before full council next Monday
