Democrats Sweep Republicans in Tuesday’s Election

News & Politics

Democrats swept Republicans in Tuesday’s city council elections. With both Ward 7 Councilman Jerry James and Ward 5 Councilman Mike Brillhart running unopposed, the other seven seats up for grabs went to Democratic candidates. With the resignation of Council-At-Large Tim Gorbach earlier in the year, two seats on Tuesday’s ballot went from appointed to elected with the victory of Mary Nichols-Rhodes over Jeff Iula and Joe Siegferth over Shane Parker.

Also of note was Gary DeRemer’s successful victory over Adam Miller in Ward 6 after three times on the ballot together. In Ward 1 Rachel Loza was successful over newcomer Theresa Chmielewski and Ward 2 Councilwoman Susan Spinner held her seat against challenger Jason Arrington. Ward 3 saw newcomer independent challenger Mark Ludwig lose to incumbent Meika Penta, while in Ward 8 Frank Stams was victorious over challenger Teri Schlosser.
