Cuyahoga Falls City council meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month and council committee meetings are held on the first and third Monday to publicly discuss pending legislation that will be voted on by council as a whole during its regular scheduled meetings. The public is free to comment on pending legislation during the allowed time on the night of committee meetings.
Boy Scout troops 166 and 7153 led the Pledge of Allegiance, afterword which Councilwoman Mary Nichols-Rhodes thanked them for for and for their September 11th food drive and flag retirement ceremony.
New legislation to be discussed in committee meetings next Monday, October 18, was read into the record, and it will be as follows:
B-88: Accepting the Planning Commission recommendation for a car wash to be constructed at 2720 Second St. will be discussed by the Planning and Zoning committee.
B-89: Amendments to the city’s traffic control file from the city’s traffic committee will be discussed within the Public Affairs committee.
B-90: An ordinance that grants permission for the city’s Service Director to represent the city as a member of the board of trustees of American Municipal Power will also be discussed by the Public Affairs committee
Next came the reports of council’s standing committees and all legislation discussed in last week’s committee meetings was voted; all eight pieces of legislation passed unanimously.
In Ward Shout-outs, Council President Brillhart asked if there was anything the needed shared by anyone on City Council. Ward 7 Councilman Jerry James wanted to make share the status of the Island Basketball Facility being built on Bailey Rd. When the facility opens, it will offer year- round basketball training and games for anyone interested.
Ward 4 Councilwoman Mary Nichols Rhodes wanted to let everyone know that despite the weather, the Parks and Rec Downtown Halloween Extravaganza was a huge success. There was a great deal of positive feedback from parents and from the children who participated.
Ward 8 Councilman Frank Stams expressed his thanks for the paving Prior Park Drive and was happy that there is storm water management taking place on Board Dr. He also wanted to thank those who attended the Valley Master Plan public meeting on October 5.
Russ Balthis, Council At Large, also commented about the Valley Master plan meeting, for which he hosted. He feels very optimistic after hearing the public’s feedback and was very happy with the number of Akron public officials that also attended.
Meika Penta, Ward 3 Councilwoman, reminded everyone about the State Road Halloween Hunt and Spooky Sweepstakes going on right now in her ward. Details can be found on the city’s website at cityofcf.com.
Ward 5 Councilman Mike Brillhart has been following the progress of the new hiking trail being constructed in his ward and is excited about its progress. He gave kudos to the engineering staff overseeing the project for their daily oversight. So far the public feedback has been very positive.
Under Miscellaneous Business, Cuyahoga Falls Resident Sarah Deitrich spoke to council and gave a rundown on the local effort to save the historic Keyser-Swain Farmhouse structure. Deitrich let council know that her group has amassed quite the list of volunteers, should they be needed with the restoration, including the local resource Progress Through Preservation. To find out more about Progress Through Preservation visit their website and learn about resources and experience they bring to this endeavor. She also urged residents to follow the progress by joining the Facebook group “Save the Keyser-Swain Farmhouse.”
City Council Committee meetings will be next Monday, October 18 beginning at 6:30 pm.
